Finish your PhD checklist

For UvA/AMC PhD candidates graduating at the University of Amsterdam the following steps apply:
  • If applicable, request exemption from the legal education requirements
  • If not done already, request admission to the Doctoral Program
  • Request approval for the composition of the Doctorate Committee
  • Reserve a preliminary date for your defense ceremony with the Beadle’s Office
  • Submit your manuscript
  • Get approval of the 'Title page package' and definite your defense date
  • Submit your final version of the thesis
  • Prepare your defense ceremony
  • Day of PhD defense

For VU/VUmc PhD candidates graduating at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam the following steps apply:
  • If applicable, request exemption from the legal education requirements
  • If not done already, request admission to the PhD trajectory in Hora Finita
  • Request approval of your 30 EC portfolio in Hora Finita at the PhD committee of your research institute
  • Submit the manuscript in Hora Finita for evaluation by the committee of assessment
  • Supervisor requests approval via Hora Finita for the composition of the Doctorate Board
  • Reserve a preliminary date for your defense ceremony with the VU Beadle’s Office
  • Get approval of the 'Title page' via Hora Finita
  • Submit your final version of the thesis
  • Prepare your defense ceremony
  • Day of PhD defense
